Adam Goldstein (aka DJ AM) Drops 155 Lbs

Adam Goldstein (aka DJ AM) Drops 155 Lbs
Adam Goldstein is on something of a roll. He's one of the hottest deejays in Hollywood, where celeb clients like Madonna and Brad Pitt know him as DJ AM. Earlier this year he became engaged to his girlfriend of two years, Nicole Richie. And he is also proud of the fact that he's half the man he used to be. Almost literally.

Two years ago, Goldstein, 32, weighed 324 lbs. Now, after undergoing gastric bypass surgery in '03, he tops out at 169. Goldstein realized he needed a drastic change after spending countless nights abusing drugs and days on eating binges. "For a year I couldn't look at myself in the mirror," he says. "I was ashamed. It was too painful to see what I looked like."

Chubby as a kid, Goldstein had struggled with depression and drug problems since he was 12. By 16 he was using marijuana regularly. "Drugs became my identity," he says. In 1990 he checked into an Orange County rehab center—but when he quit treatment two years later he soon discovered Ecstacy and cocaine on the late-night rave scene. "That brought me to my knees really fast," he says. "I would deejay until 2 a.m., go get drugs and stay up until 10 in the morning doing drugs alone in my apartment. When they were all gone, I would take a whole bottle of Tylenol PM to go to sleep. Then I would wake up and eat like a beast. I was the only fat crackhead in L.A."

He binged on fast food, daily cheeseburgers, fries and ice cream. "I watched the movie Super Size Me, and I was like, 'I used to be this dude,'" Goldstein says. He quickly packed on the pounds. By his early 20s, he was working his way up to 300 lbs.

His turning point came, he says, when he considered suicide in 1997. One night, after his usual dose of cocaine, Goldstein, 24 at the time, caught a glimpse of himself in the bathroom mirror. "I literally could not move away from staring at myself," he recalls. "I heard this voice saying, 'Who are you?'" He grabbed a gun he had in his apartment and put it to his mouth. "I sat back, my hand was on the way down, and I just stopped," he says. "My whole life flashed in front of me, and I knew this was not my destiny. I started bawling my eyes out. I was like, 'God, please help me.'"

That night, he says, he vowed to get off drugs and lose weight. Now sober for seven years, he says that, for him, slimming down was harder than staying clean. Goldstein went on a string of diets but "tried and failed, went up and down," he says. "I finally said, I can't do this anymore.' " Just after his 30th birthday he decided to have gastric bypass surgery. "I was terrified," he says. "But I was like, I have to do it." At first Goldstein was limited to a diet of protein shakes and broth. His friends had to carry his records to gigs for him because his stomach muscles were so sore. But the weight started coming off. "A year later," he says, "I was a different person."

He's now 155 lbs. lighter. "People don't even recognize me," he says. "They see me and are in shock." He eats six small meals a day-often chicken or steak-and has learned to limit his portions and "chew until everything is liquid." Though his work schedule prevents him from exercising regularly, he "can now go up three flights of stairs without getting winded," he says.

That makes his fiancĂ©e happy. "I am so proud of Adam for everything he has accomplished," says Richie, 23, who started dating Goldstein a month before his surgery. "He's always been an amazing, sexy person, no matter what his size." Though Richie has recently dropped some weight as well, the two "don't really watch each other's diets," says Goldstein. Instead, they enjoy meals at high-end restaurants and take long walks together. In November they moved into a house in the Hollywood Hills with their dogs Honey Child and Foxy Cleopatra and kitten Shalom. Next summer they plan to wed. "I absolutely want to start a family with her," he says. "Nicole is one of the funniest people I know—she's my best friend." One more thing Goldstein says he has come to appreciate: the guy in the mirror. "I look at myself every day," he says. "I love it."

Iphone Facebook 3.0 is now live go get it now in the App store

Note: Even if it says Facebook 2.5, it is actually Facebook 3.0 due to caching. Direct download it or wait until Apple updates its cache.
-
We knew it was coming in all of its glory. With additions such as events, creating photo albums, photo zoom, and a new home screen, how could we not be excited for the Facebook for iPhone 3.0 update? Well, the wait is over: Facebook 3.0 for the iPhone has arrived.

The new update completely upgrades the Facebook iPhone app, still the #1 most popular application in the iTunes store. And let’s be clear: this upgrade was absolutely essential. While Facebook 2.5 allowed you to browse your friends, update your status, check your notifications, and use Facebook Chat, that’s really all it could do.

So what’s new in the app? Joe Hewitt, the developer of the Facebook iPhone App, actually has a list of new features and improvements posted last week. Here’s what’s in store for you when you open up Facebook 3.0:

- See your upcoming Events and RSVP
- See your friends’ birthdays
- See Pages and post updates and photos to Pages you administer
- Write Notes and read your friends’ Notes
- Upload videos from an iPhone 3GS
- Upload photos to any album
- Complete photo management (create albums, delete albums, delete photos, delete photo tags)
- Change your Profile Picture
- Zoom into photos
- Like posts and photos
- See the same News Feed as the Facebook website
- Visit links in a built-in web browser
- See all of your friends’ friends and Pages
- See mutual friends
- Easily search for people and Pages
- Make friend requests
- Become a fan of Pages
- Quickly call or text your friends
- Create shortcuts to your favorite friends and Pages
- Friends sorted by first or last name according to your settings
- Chat friends sorted alphabeticaly

At this point, you should be reaching for your iPhone and getting the update if you haven’t done so already. So please, try it out and post your thoughts about the new Facebook app in the comments. Does it live up to expectations? Is it still missing something big? We want to know.
So you’ve downloaded, perhaps even purchased, some of the new iPhone/iPod Touch apps from the App Store. Then you discovered you don’t really want or need that app. This tutorial will guide you in deleting it from your iPhone or iPod Touch.

On the springboard, locate the app you want to delete. For this example, I’ll use WeatherBug.

U2 360° TOUR SCHEDULING CHANGE ANNOUNCED FOR GIANTS STADIUM PERFORMANCE DATE

U2 360° TOUR SCHEDULING CHANGE ANNOUNCED FOR GIANTS STADIUM PERFORMANCE
DATE – Thursday, August 27th – 9am - For Immediate Release: The U2 concert previously scheduled for FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25th, 2009 at Giants Stadium in New Jersey has been moved to WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23RD, 2009. The performance on Thursday, September 24th will proceed as scheduled. The change was necessitated by the rescheduling of the New York Jets football game on Sunday September 27, 2009 from 4:15pm to 1pm out of respect for the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, which starts that evening. Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the Jewish year.
The spectacular staging installation for the U2 360° tour requires up to two days to disassemble. The original 4:15 PM game time scheduled by the NY Jets provided enough time for the band to load out the set. The change to 1 PM was logistically impossible for U2. In order to accommodate the New York Jets, the NFL and the state of New Jersey, which owns the stadium, and out of respect for U2 and Jets' fans of Jewish faith, U2 agreed to move their show rather than pursue other options.
"We regret any disruptions this may cause U2 fans." said Dennis Robinson, President and CEO of the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority and Thad Sheely, Executive Vice President - Stadium Development and Finance of the New York Jets. "Out of respect for the religious holiday it was critical that the game time was changed. The NJSEA, along with the Jets, want to thank U2, their management staff, their fans and Live Nation for their immediate response in helping us remedy this situation."
"The show is incredible, but physically it takes time to load in and out" said Arthur Fogel, U2 360° Tour Promoter and CEO Global Touring and Chairman - Global Music Live Nation. "We tried everything we could to rearrange our production logistics to ensure we were out of the stadium for the earlier game time but unfortunately, it was impossible. We want to thank our incredible fans for their never-ending support.”
Tickets for the Friday, September 25th performance will be honored at the newly announced show date of Wednesday, September 23rd. Refunds, if necessary, will be available starting Friday, August 28th (through September 22nd) at point of purchase for U2 ticket holders of the September 25, 2009 show who cannot make the September 23rd date. The U2 360° Tour scheduled for Thursday, September 24th is not affected and will proceed as scheduled. For complete tour and ticket information, visit: http://www.wwwtixx.com

Ride the train to Giants Staium save on parking and its fast

Riding the rails to Jets, Giants games
Early reviews by fans are enthusiastic

East Rutherford, N.J. - Stephen Berlinski can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times he's been on a train, but NJ Transit's new service to Giants Stadium is going to change that.
"It's so convenient, it's unbelievable," said the Middletown native and Rams fan after taking his 14-year-old son, Brent, to the preseason game between the Jets and the Rams on the train.

"The transfer is so easy — NJ Transit's got people all over the place in Secaucus," Berlinksi continued. "Then the new stadium is right there, and I mean right there, when you get off the train. The old one is a little bit of a walk, but you've got cops with guns around so it's safe. And afterwards, we got home in less than two hours. You can't beat it."
Jonathan Leopoldo and Joe Iorio, both of Goshen, said the decision to use the new service rather than drive was a no-brainer.
"You don't have to worry about traffic," Leopoldo said.

Added Iorio: "It takes a lot of the stress off and you can eat on the train and save money on food, too. No $10 for a hot dog at the stadium."
Phil Lockwood and Joe Dranoff, who boarded at Suffern and immediately popped some beers, used the new service to attend an AC/DC concert and will never drive to the stadium again.
"It makes life 100 times easier," Lockwood said.

Leopoldo agreed, even though he and Iorio had a mix-up with their tickets and had to wait for the 12:50 a.m. train home.
"The wait went pretty quick ... and we made some friends on the train back," Leopoldo said. "And, yeah, too bad the Jets lost, but (new quarterback Mark) Sanchez was awesome!"
Stephen and Brent Berlinski, however, opted to leave at halftime and catch the 10:08 train — and missed seeing the Rams come from behind and win.

"I didn't want to keep him out too late, and I was unsure about a lot of things this first time," Stephen Berlinski said. "But the next time, we'll go on a Sunday and we'll stay."

FOOTBALL TRAIN AT A GLANCE
THE SCHEDULE
Check train schedules down and back carefully at njtransit.com. The best matches between Sunday train and game times are from NJ Transit's Ramsey/Route 17 station, but adequate matches can be had from Metro-North's Port Jervis Line stations for some kickoffs.
The Ramsey station is located at the Spring Street exit of Route 17 south, 18 miles from Harriman. It's got a five-story parking garage - look for the tall clock tower - as well as bathrooms and a 24/7office.
PARKING
On weekends, parking is free at Orange County stations and $2 at Ramsey.
At Ramsey, you get a parking ticket when you arrive, but don't pay it until you leave. Vending machines accept cash or credit cards. Hang on to the ticket - you've got to use it to get out of the garage.
TICKETS
Vending machines on station platforms can be a little tricky to use on the first try. Get to the station early or buy tickets in advance. They accept cash or credit cards.
Your destination is the Meadowlands Sports Complex, not Secaucus or East Rutherford.
FARES
Off-peak fares are in effect evenings and weekends. Fares to the Meadowlands are the same as those to Secaucus Junction - $17 round-trip from Salisbury Mills/Cornwall, for example, and $10.25 from Ramsey.
Commuters can use their monthlies to take the train to the game at no extra charge.
FOOD AND DRINK
You can eat and drink onboard trains, all of which have at least one bathroom. Take your garbage with you - trash and recycling bins are on the platforms.
New Jersey's open-container laws mean no beer-drinking when you're walking around the station or to the stadium. And remember, no coolers or backpacks are permitted in the stadium.
THE SECAUCUS TRANSFER
Trains to the game originate in Hoboken and stop in Secaucus before continuing to the stadium. Most fans will change trains in Secaucus for the 10-minute trip.
Hoboken boarding will appeal to commuters who want to go to stadium events weeknights before heading home - like the U2 and Bruce Springsteen concerts next month.
Trains start running about 31"2 hours before games and stop about two hours afterwards. Frequency will ebb and flow depending on demand, but you should plan on leaving the stadium about 20 minutes before your train home departs.
Secaucus, a big station on multiple levels, is papered with green "Meadowlands" signs and NJ Transit has extra staff throughout on game days. And you can't go wrong following the crowd in Jets or Giants colors.
In the rotunda on the top level, the station has a newsstand and a bar that are open Sundays, banks of clean bathrooms and a customer service office.
THE MEADOWLANDS STATION
The new station is steps away from the new stadium that is now scheduled to open next year and about a 10-minute walk across the equivalent of a parking lot to the old stadium.
NJ Transit police, New Jersey State Police and New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority staff are deployed along the way.

Metallica review 2009 NJ

“Take a look to the sky just before you die… it’s the last time you will!” The stage lights went black, and the entire sold out Prudential Center arena in Newark, NJ plunged into darkness. Four seconds later the lights came blazing back on with the ear-blasting crunch of Metallica’s heaviest guitar chords, and the crowd roared with delight. It was the second of three local Metallica concerts, and the fans were loving every minute of it.

Two hours earlier, the arena was barely a quarter full, and a band called The Sword was churning out sludgy, crunchy riffs, and shouting incomprehensibly. The Sword is Lars Ulrich’s favorite up-and-coming band, and that earned them the incomparable honor of opening up for the world’s biggest heavy metal band. Their music has been described as ‘Black Sabbath meets Metallica,’ and the analogy seemed fairly accurate. The songs were heavy yet grooving, and the band plays with a unique sound that is likely to take them far. All they’re missing is a master vocalist who can take the songs to the next level, by providing some melody and range to the music.

Next up was Machinehead, a band which seems doomed to be a perennial opening act. Riding on the success of their highly acclaimed 2007 album The Blackening, in the past two years Machinehead has opened for acts as big as Megadeth, Slipknot, and the Dio-led Heaven & Hell. The group’s machine gun riffing, heavy as hell power chords, and uncompromising attitude has earned them much acclaim from members of Metallica, and a key spot on this leg of their tour. Singer and guitarist Robb Flynn screamed and yelled mightily, railing against oppression and injustice, and yet would smoothly transition to harmoniously and beautifully sung interludes, inevitably followed by a drum-driven march back into crushingly heavy choruses. Machinehead’s heavy yet intricate riffs and socially conscious lyrics make them a natural successor to Metallica’s thrash metal legend, and it seems as if they are just a power ballad away from mainstream success.

But few of the almost 20,000 fans packing the newly built Prudential center were wearing Machinehead or The Sword t-shirts. Instead, thousands of fans wearing Metallica t-shirts spanning a 25 year career filled the spacious and gleaming arena, excitedly discussing potential setlists and surprises for the night. Many of the attendees had been to Thursday night’s show at Nassau Coliseum (see the review here) as well, and were looking forward to hearing favorite songs that did not make the setlist in Long Island.

Those fans were in luck. The lights darkened minutes after 9:00 pm, and The Ecstasy of Gold, the haunting theme from The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, boomed out over the PA system. James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Rob Trujillo took to the stage wordlessly, and let their instruments do their talking. The band ripped into That Was Just Your Life, one of six new songs off 2008’s Death Magnetic that would be played over the course of the night. A dazzling laser show was intricately synced up to the song’s nonstop beats and abrupt time shifts, and the tune was immediately followed by another new song, The End of the Line.

Metallica then treated fans to Ride the Lightening, the title track of their hit 1985 record, and a true old school thrash favorite, written from the perspective of a death row inmate about to be electrocuted. Never ones to lose their momentum, the band followed up with some of the best and heaviest songs in their 100+ tune catalog, such as One, For Whom The Bell Tolls, and Sad But True, accompanied by flames, explosions, and giant steel coffins which swung, rotated, and practically cavorted above the stage. Interspersed with the fans favorites were the four additional new songs from Death Magnetic, which may lack the flashiness and grandeur of the classic hits, but still received enthusiastic responses, especially the chart topping single The Day That Never Comes. Proving, as if they needed to, that Metallica is still a force to be reckoned with, the group busted out an ultra-rare rendition of the almost ten minute epic And Justice For All, a long, meandering song which boasts some of the most complex riffs the group has ever produced, making the spectacular performance of their masterpiece Master of Puppets seem almost easy by comparison.

After spending almost two hours playing the heaviest and fastest songs from the band’s first four albums, Metallica finally allowed the tempo to slow, and saluted the songs that made them into a household name. Power ballad Nothing Else Matters was sung poignantly by James, as he allowed raw, deep throated passion to slowly creep into his voice with each additional verse. And the entire arena cheered and sang along to mega-hit Enter Sandman, the heavy yet catchy song that first put Metallica into heavy MTV and radio rotation.

Following a brief rest, James and his bandmates returned for a three song encore, featuring a cover of the song Blitzkreig, Kill ‘Em All shredder Hit the Lights, and the always popular Seek and Destroy. As the arena full of fans sang, yelled, and screamed the song’s three word chorus, giant black beach balls cascaded from the rafters, bouncing throughout the stage and the mosh pit. Both James and Lars got tripped up by wayward beach balls in the final minutes of the song, with James getting knocked to his knees, and then angrily kicking every ball in sight off into the crowd, much to the delight of the audience as well as the stage crew. Look for videos to show up soon on Youtube.

As thousands of boisterous fans filed out the doors of the Prudential Center, a sense of satisfaction hung thick in the air. Some attendees had just seen Metallica for the first time, others had seen them two, three, or even twenty times before. But everyone, from middle school children escorted by parents to graying men born before the term heavy metal was even coined, seemed to be in agreement: Metallica still does, and always has, kicked f*cking ass.

It was pretty much everything...... Reader's Digest version of events:

It stormed just prior to the band hitting the stage. The power went out, lights and sound. Steven was dancing at the end of the catwalk trying to entertain the folks until the power returned. The catwalk was wet, and he slipped during a turn/spin and fell backwards off the stage. He landed on a fence & security guard... assessed by MD's backstage then airlifted to the hospital. AP says minor injuries to his head, neck, shoulder... was talking and joking with docs.

Aerosmith's Steven Tyler falls from stage in SD

By CARSON WALKER (AP) – 1 hour ago UPDATED INFO ON STEVEN TYLER INJURY

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler was airlifted to a hospital after falling from stage during a concert at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in western South Dakota.

Tyler, 61, fell while entertaining the crowd by dancing around after the sound system failed during the song "Love In an Elevator," said Mike Sanborn, spokesman for the Buffalo Chip Campground, which hosted the outdoor concert.

Tyler was on the stage's catwalk when he fell backward onto a couple of fans in the middle of what was a record crowd, Sanborn said. Security rushed to help him and the crowd cheered when Tyler got back up.

"He was good natured about it," Sanborn said. "He was in good spirits when he got in the helicopter. He was talking and joking with the physician."

"It was an unfortunate end to an extraordinary evening."

Tyler suffered minor head and neck injuries and a shoulder injury, but it wasn't immediately clear how serious that was, he said.

Tyler was taken backstage and around 12:15 a.m., Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry came out to tell the audience Tyler was being taken to the hospital and that the show would not go on.

It happened about halfway through the performance, Sanborn said.

"He does a lot of dancing on the stage and he does a lot of stuff with his mike stand. He put his stand down and twirled around and stepped backwards off the stage," he said.

Sanborn said Tyler was attended to on site by a physician and flown to Rapid City Regional Hospital, the only major hospital in the region.

Jennifer Horton, the hospital's vice president of public relations and marketing, said early Thursday that Tyler wasn't in the hospital directory. Under the privacy laws, that means the person is either not there or chose not to be included in the directory, according to the hospital's Web site.

Tyler attended Sturgis last year to promote his Dirico Motorcycles line and was back this year to do that again and play at the Buffalo Chip.

Fans were disappointed the concert was cut short but hoped Tyler was OK.

Lance Yellow Robe, who said he was 8 eight feet from the stage when Tyler fell off, told the Rapid City Journal "you could kind of see it coming because he was dancing all over the stage.

"I hope he's OK," Yellow Robe said. "I could care less about the concert being canceled."

Kid Rock surprises robbery victim with $1,500 check AFTER PIZZA DELIVERY BEATING

Kid Rock surprises robbery victim with $1,500 check

By Jennifer Baker
GANNETT OHIO NEWS / The Cincinnati Enquirer

The Papa John's pizza delivery man brutally beaten and robbed of a small amount of cash and some pizza last month discovered a pleasant surprise Tuesday when he was released from University Hospital after undergoing reconstructive surgery on his face.

A $1,500 check from musician Kid Rock.

"I didn't expect it and didn't ask for it, but it was certainly a very nice thing to do," said Harry Colyer, 28, in an interview Wednesday from his Harrison home.

As he spoke, he had to hold a hand over a hole in his neck that used to hold a breathing tube. Doctors had to insert the tube, which was removed Tuesday, so he could breathe while they repaired extensive damage to his face.

Both cheekbones were broken. His nose also was broken and crushed. Metal plates were installed to help stabilize his right eye. Even his sinus cavity had to be repaired. He has a slight hearing loss in his left ear.

While in town for a July 22 concert at Riverbend, Kid Rock read an Enquirer story about Colyer's attack and was moved to help, said Nick Stern, a New York City representative of the musician.

Colyer was attacked from behind with a two-by-four and a brick the night of July 20 as he delivered pizzas in College Hill. At the time, he was working to pay for nursing classes and his car.

"They came within a hair of killing him," said his mother, Brenda Colyer.

Kid Rock, whose real name is Robert James Ritchie, declined Wednesday via Stern to comment on the donation, something Stern said the rocker quietly and regularly does to help those in need, not for publicity.

Colyer said he has never really listened to Kid Rock's music. But his mother, 63, said she has been a fan since she saw him perform with 1950s rock and roll singer and pianist Jerry Lee Lewis on television some years ago.

The check, which came in the mail last week, was a bright spot in an otherwise dreary time right now for Harry Colyer.

He is frustrated he can't work and had to delay returning to school until the winter semester. He said he won't be well enough to start classes this month at Cincinnati State and Technical Community College.

And he's angry at the 20-year-old man and two teens charged with his attack.

"There's many times I've been down and out and needed money," he said. "The options I considered are work hard, pick up another couple shifts, get another job. These kids took the wrong way out and chose to beat my face in for a few bucks."

Even though the police report lists $15 was stolen from him, he thinks he really had about $8 on him that night, just enough to make change.

Steven Shields has been indicted on charges of aggravated robbery and felonious assault, court records show. The juveniles, 14 and 17, remain in custody at the Hamilton County Juvenile Court Youth Center on aggravated robbery charges, county juvenile officials said Wednesday.

The teens are scheduled to appear Aug. 31 in juvenile court for a hearing to determine if they will be tried as adults.

I've gotten up and gone into work everyday since I was 16," Colyer said. "I can't go to school. I can't even sit and focus on television too long without getting a headache. They've taken - for a period of time - my entire life."

His mother said she expects him to recover, but he will have scars - physically and mentally.

"It's going to take him a long time just to kind of forget and forgive," Brenda Colyer said.

The sound failed in the main PA system, at Aerosmith show

" Trust me, that was not a planned fall. As Rider X said, he was there one minute and the next he was falling into the audience.

The sound failed in the main PA system, but not the band's amplifiers on the stage. The band was continuing to play even though you could barely hear them. Tyler moved out onto a stage projection into the center of the audience and was dancing to provide entertainment for the crowd when he slppped and fell.

From my perspective, Aerosmith was doing all it could to give the crowd a show and then Tyler had an unfortunate accident.

Tyler injured a leg earlier this year and the band had to cancel several shows, so we were lucky to have them here at all. I really hope whatever injury he suffered tonight is not serious.

Concert canceled after Steven Tyler falls from Buffalo Chip stage
By Journal staff | Thursday, August 06, 2009

STURGIS — A huge number of fans and concert connoisseurs packed the field in front of the Buffalo Chip Campground main stage to see the bad boys of Boston themselves, Aerosmith. But fans were treated instead to an abbreviated show after lead singer Steven Tyler fell off the stage during the set, a Journal reporter at the scene said.

Details were sketchy at news deadline, but staffers said the sound system failed shortly before the incident as the band was playing “Love In An Elevator.”
