According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal's Mike Weatherford, Jersey Boys may be the latest Broadway smash to receive a Las Vegas production.

The Tony Award-winning musical about the Four Seasons may be headed to The Venetian's Palazzo Tower. "The Broadway hit is slated for a sit-down run in a new theater, part of the tower scheduled to come on line just north of The Venetian sometime in the fall," he writes.

Van Halen brothers might not attend Rock Hall ceremony, says Roth
Van Halen singer David Lee Roth told the Los Angeles Times on Friday (February 23rd) that he's not sure whether guitarist Eddie Van Halen or drummer Alex Van Halen will come to New York City for the band's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 12th. Roth said, "We have fragile politics in Van Halen; please accept that as a partial answer. But I don't know if the Van Halens are going to go....I hope they do, but right now, I just don't know. Hope springs eternal." Roth told the Times that he, original bassist Michael Anthony and the band's second lead vocalist, Sammy Hagar, would all attend the Rock Hall ceremonies.

Roth's warning followed the news that the band's proposed reunion tour, which would have featured him singing with the band for the first time in more than two decades, was "shut down" for reasons yet to be explained.

The Times reported that the tour's promoter, Live Nation, "finally surrendered in the face of the chaos surrounding guitar hero Eddie Van Halen," adding that industry insiders described the guitarist as "somewhere between Axl Rose and Michael Jackson on the music industry scale of eccentric recluses."

No official statement has been released regarding the tour's postponement, although sources told Billboard.com on Friday that the trek was still in the works. When it would happen, however, was "anybody's guess."

Apparently the band rehearsed just once, with Eddie Van Halen's 15-year-old son, Wolfgang, helping his father relearn some of his solos. Wolfgang had been tapped by his dad to replace Anthony on bass for the tour.

A greatest hits collection taken from Roth's years from the band is also now officially on hold.

Mayer, who appears on the cover of the February 22nd issue of Rolling Stone magazine as one of "The New Guitar Gods" of contemporary music, recently took a break from winter tour dates to accept this year's Best Pop Vocal Album Grammy for CONTINUUM as well as the Best Male Pop Vocal Performance Grammy for his single, "Waiting on the World to Change," at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony, where he performed his current single, the stunningly spare "Gravity." EAGLES PREPARING TO HIT THE ROAD AGAIN
Henley defends deal with Wal-Mart

During the dusty Texas summers of his youth, Don Henley worked in his father's auto parts store and learned the vagaries of fan belts, batteries, spark plugs, tailpipes and mufflers.

His father taught the future rock star plenty, and, when the family business started to collapse, one of the lessons was to recognize who was to blame.

''My father was a small-business man after he got out of World War II,'' Henley said. ''He despised chains, the big guys, who eventually helped put him out of business.''

Now the son is in business with Wal-Mart. The Eagles, the rock band that claims the best-selling album in the history of American music, will soon release its first studio album since ''The Long Run'' in 1979, and, if you want to buy it, you'll have to get in line at Wal-Mart or wait 12 months to get it elsewhere.

''They will have an exclusive on it for the first year,'' Henley said, explaining for the first time a core part of the ''strategic partnership'' announced in late October.

The Eagles have taken plenty of heat through the years for cashing in -- their tours have some of the priciest tickets around, and the history of backstage bickering has added to the aura of mercenary priorities -- but the 59-year-old singer-songwriter always has been a maverick and rock's most cerebral grump. He explains that anyone who sees some sort of disconnect between his famed Walden Pond preservation efforts and this new corporate deal is simply not paying attention.

''A lot of the people who have criticized us are obviously unaware of what Wal-Mart is doing in overhauling their operation,'' he said, rattling off the company's well-publicized initiatives to open eco-friendly ''green stores,'' reduce packaging and use its market share to pressure vendors into pursuing environmentally conscious approaches.

And there's the fact that the Wal-Mart deal offered a promising escape route for Henley and his bandmates; they have no traditional record label deal, and, after watching the file-sharing Web sites rise to power, they were open to any path to keep their connection with fans.

''This is the world we live in,'' Henley said. Then, with a chuckle, he added: ''In the big picture, they can't be any more evil than a major record label.''

The singer-songwriter, sitting recently in an L.A. studio, was in a cheery mood, all things considered. The day had started with a major crisis: ''It blew up this morning,'' he said.

Surprisingly, he wasn't talking about the Eagles and their effort to make new music without killing each other.

''The water heater at the studio blew up this morning. Well, it didn't blow up, but it started leaking and it was going to blow up.''

Then his 11-year-old daughter called from Dallas to get help with her French homework (''I had two years of it,'' he groaned, ''but I'm useless.''), which competed with the singer's last-minute fundraising duties to secure $900,000 to scoop up a farm adjacent to the Thoreau Institute in his beloved Massachusetts forest. All of that, though, was a welcome distraction from his true enemy at the moment.

''Yeah, anything to stay away from those legal pads,'' he said, referring to the unfinished lyrics for ''Long Road Out of Eden,'' the title track to that new Eagles studio CD, which, come to think of it, will be the first Eagles studio CD given that ''The Long Run'' was released in the vinyl days of the Carter administration.

The album, he said, is due to Wal-Mart ''in the next 60 to 90 days,'' but the real deadline on Henley's mind is the tour that will follow.

''We're inching our way toward some kind of completion here on the album, and we hope to get it out in time to hit the road this summer. We believe we've got one more world tour in us, and then that'd be about it. We might just ride off into that old sunset.''

That was exciting news at the Concert Industry Consortium, which brought promoters from around the country to Hollywood earlier this month; an Eagles tour (along with reunions by Van Halen and the Police) means the Rolling Stones can take a year off as the beast of burden responsible for dragging baby boomers through arena turnstiles.

The prospect that this might be the last Eagles hurrah had Henley in a somewhat reflective mood. The band always has had sweet harmonies on stage, but that has always been a rich irony for anyone who watched their dressing room brawls. Henley said a detente has been reached.

''Incidents still happen on tour, but we don't let it get in the way of the performance. That's something you learn to do over a long span of years.'' Or, you don't -- ''The key to being on the road is to try to keep two things: Your sense of humor and your sense of gratitude.''

On that theme of thanks, Henley was honored Feb. 9 at a lavish banquet as the MusiCares ''person of the year.'' The admission fee and a silent auction benefited the Grammy MusiCares program, which helps aging, sick and indigent musicians.

There may be an unkind joke to be made there that the Eagles qualify in two of the three categories. Everybody in the band has some challenges to deal with on the road. For Henley, it's playing drums with his bad back and keeping his voice intact.

''We are approaching 60,'' he said. ''Tours used to be mentally challenging. Now they are mentally and physically challenging.

''The kind of partying we used to do, well that's been a thing of the past for some time,'' he said. ''Spare me the 'Behind the Music' stuff. You won't see that at our shows. It's like a morgue backstage.''

That doesn't mean the band is completely past its days as a study in volatile chemistry. Just six years ago, Henley and the other principal songwriter and singer, Glenn Frey, bounced Don Felder from the outfit, leading to a flurry of nasty lawsuits that is still being sorted out.

That led to cynical attacks on the band, but not nearly as many as they heard last year when they signed a deal with Wal-Mart, the world's second largest company, which has been steadily criticized as a massive engine of social and environmental harm.

''It's easy to sit outside on the sidelines and throw rocks when you don't know what's going on, but if you're going to change corporate America, then we have to get down in the dirt with them,'' Henley said.

Wal-Mart is happy with the deal, at least so far; David Porter, Wal-Mart's vice president of home entertainment, gushed back in October that the retailer was ''very pleased to be able to bring our customers an alliance with America's greatest rock icons.''

Still, in the bargain Wal-Mart gets a cranky star promising to keep an eye on the promises made (''I will be watchful'') and to make a stink if they don't come through (''You can always get a divorce'').

The album that Wal-Mart will be getting won't be the predictably neutral material it always got from its other corporate troubadour, Garth Brooks. Henley said the lyrics are laced with dark humor and war protest.

The title track is ''about the war in Iraq and the evolution of man.'' Listening to himself, he chuckled. ''It's not a fluffy little tune... there's a portion of a song you can dance to.'' He waited a beat and asked for a favor: ''Put a 'ha-ha' in there after that, OK?''

It's not that Henley isn't funny, it's just that people are so accustomed to his serious mode that the jokes can slip by. Henley seems torn at times between his impulses to provoke and preach and the entertainer's natural imperative to please a crowd; it's hard to dig in your heels and bow at the same time.

The Police Fenway tickets go onsale Feb 20th

As widely rumored, the Police will play at Fenway Park this summer, the only confirmed stadium date on the group's forthcoming world tour. Tickets for the Boston date, expected to be in late July, will go on sale Feb. 20. The band will also headline the June 16 date at the Bonnaroo festival. The Police, who reunited for their first public performance in two decades last night at the Grammys (and couldn't cough up more than a jazzy rendition of "Roxanne," but that's another story), will kick off their tour May 28 in Vancouver. LOS ANGELES -- The Police 30th Anniversary reunion world tour will kick off May 28 at Vancouver's GM Place and travel through North America until early August, Sun Media has exclusively learned.

The official tour announcement will be made this morning at legendary Sunset Strip club Whiskey A Go Go by singer-bassist Sting, 55, drummer Stewart Copeland, 54, and guitarist Andy Summers, 64.

Other Canadian dates are Edmonton on June 2 (venue TBA), Toronto's Air Canada Centre on July 22 and Montreal's Bell Centre on July 25.

Ticket prices are expected to be in three ranges -- approximately $225, $90 and $50 -- with Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal on sale Saturday (Feb. 17) and Edmonton's on-sale date still TBA. full tour dates will be posted later today at the website www.tixx.com

'REHEARSALS'

There is also a chance there will be multiple shows in some markets that sell out fast.

Last week, the three members of the '80s British New Wave band invited select media and a small group of fans to the Whiskey A Go Go today for late-morning "rehearsals, where a special announcement will be made."

Last night, The Police kicked off the Grammy Awards at the Staples Centre in L.A. with their uber-hit Roxanne and have been spotted around Vancouver over the past two weeks where they were rehearsing at Lions Gate Studios on the city's North Shore.

The trio is expected to rehearse elsewhere before returning to the West Coast for more fine-tuning leading up to their tour launch.

BREAK IN AUGUST

The trek, The Police's first since 1984's Synchronity tour, will make its way through North American arenas and stadiums, although there are some specialized events on the schedule, until the first week of August before a break.

From late-August until mid-October, the trio will play the U.K. and Europe, before returning to North America in late October and then travelling beyond to Mexico, South America, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

The Police 30th Anniversary tour is being produced by onetime Torontonian Arthur Fogel, currently Live Nation's L.A-based chairman of global music. Fogel's most recent tours have included those by Madonna and U2.

Michael Jackson has reportedly turned to the former manager of the Spice Girls, Simon Fuller, to help mastermind his pop comeback.

The pair were spotted dining together in Las Vegas last weekend and a source told the Sun: “Michael is determined to be a global phenomenon again.”

The first game of the 2007 regular season will be an April 1 rematch at Busch Stadium between the Cardinals and Mets, who gave fans a postseason classic when they last met for Game 7 of the National League Championship Series. Maybe it will come down to a final at-bat by Carlos Beltran with the bases loaded again.
The last game of the 2007 regular season will be Giants at Dodgers late on the afternoon of Sunday, Sept. 30. Who knows, maybe one of sport's great rivalries will come down to San Francisco's Barry Zito against former Giant Jason Schmidt to decide the final postseason berth.

Those are two of 2,430 Major League Baseball games set to make 2007 beautiful, and now it's all there for you to see for yourself. Major League Baseball released the master schedule on Thursday, and fans now can click "Schedule" on the main navigation bar here at MLB.com and while away the hours between now and Spring Training. It's one of the annual milestones on the way to Opening Day, whetting your appetite for game action and making it easy to buy tickets and plan that summer baseball trip.

Here are some of the highlights on the 2007 master schedule:

The Cardinals will face the Tigers at Comerica Park on May 18-20 in a rematch of the 2006 Fall Classic. Kenny Rogers beat the Cardinals in their last meeting there, but the World Series never came back to Detroit. Will the reigning American League champions find redemption, or do the Cardinals still have their number?

Of course, the road to the World Series was anything but easy for the Cardinals, who survived a seven-game slugfest with the Mets in the NLCS. Fans don't have long to wait for this rematch, as a season-opening, four-game set between the Redbirds and the defending NL East champs is slated for April 1-4 at Busch -- starting with the ESPN Sunday-night opener. The teams will meet again June 25-28 at Shea Stadium, which is where Beltran struck out looking on that Series-ending 0-2 pitch by Adam Wainwright.

Fans of the most fabled rivalry in pro sports will not have to wait long to see the next installments. The Yankees visit Fenway Park April 20-22, and the two teams meet up in the Bronx for three games the following weekend. Red Sox fans have probably not forgotten last season's "Boston Massacre II," a five-game demolition by the Yankees that effectively ended Red Sox hopes.

The Tigers and the White Sox are the previous two teams to represent the AL in the World Series, and they are both good bets to remain among the game's elite squads. With the season right around the corner, it's not too early to secure a seat to their season-ending series, a three-game set from Sept. 28-30 at U.S. Cellular Field that could go a long way in determining the AL Central race.

For the Cardinals, the road to a fourth consecutive NL Central crown figures to go through the North Side of Chicago, as the Cubs have made a number of upgrades via free agency, most notably the acquisition of dynamic outfielder Alfonso Soriano. Buy your tickets now to watch another chapter of this storied rivalry unfold. Will this be the Cubs' year at last? Look at the master schedule and plan your road trip now if Wrigley is one of the baseball palaces you just have to hit in 2007.

Imagine the sights at Wrigley Field from May 18-20, when the White Sox travel north to face the crosstown rival Cubs in one of a handful of intriguing Interleague matchups. Or the vibe at Dodger Stadium on June 15-17, when the Angels meet the Dodgers in the battle for L.A. bragging rights. Or the raw aura at Yankee Stadium on June 15-17, when the Yankees renew their subway rivalry with the Mets.

Interleague Play in 2006 was painfully lopsided if you were an NL fan, as the AL dominated and the consensus was it was the better of the two leagues. The Cardinals quashed that kind of talk at the World Series, but it will still be interesting to see how the NL fares against the AL during the next Interleague stretch, which begins on Friday, June 8. Angels at Cardinals will mean new St. Louis second baseman Adam Kennedy facing his old teammates. Pirates at Yankees rekindles thoughts of 1960 and Bill Mazeroski's homer ending the Fall Classic in Game 7.

Red Sox at D-backs in that first Interleague weekend could mean Curt Schilling pitching back in Phoenix, and who knows, maybe against Randy Johnson.

Of course, the Red Sox also will be introducing Daisuke Matsuzaka to North American fans in 2007. Will he be on the mound for the Red Sox on April 8, when his team welcomes fellow Japanese megastar Ichiro Suzuki and the Mariners to Fenway for the home opener?

Will Barry Bonds crank the 23 home runs he needs to pass Hank Aaron for first place on the all-time home run list? And will Astros second baseman Craig Biggio collect the 70 hits he needs to reach 3,000? Will Tom Glavine win his 300th? BEIJING, Feb. 7 -- British rock legend and former Pink Floyd member Roger Waters will hold his concert at the Shanghai Grand Stage on February 12. This is the third concert by a famous Western rock band or musician in Shanghai in one year, after the Rolling Stones' last April and Eric Clapton's on January 20.

"Pink Floyd has many fans in China," said Shanghai-based music critic Sun Mengjin. "Let Chinese rock fans name the 10 most influential rock groups, and Pink Floyd will definitely be one of them."

At his concert in Shanghai, Waters will mainly perform classic Pink Floyd songs that he wrote or co-wrote, many from the albums Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall.

The Shanghai concert is the first one of Waters' Asia tour, to be followed by concerts in Hong Kong on February 15, in Mumbai, India on February 18, and in Dubai of the United Arab Emirates on February 21. The Asia tour is part of Waters' 2007 world tour, which started in Australia on January 25 and will end in Ireland on May 14.

The price of tickets to Waters' Shanghai concert ranges from 280 yuan (36 U.S. dollars) to 1,680 yuan (215 dollars), lower than the Rolling Stones' concert at the same venue in Shanghai, which ranged from 300 yuan (38 dollars) to 3,000 yuan (385 dollars).

Since Beijing's major stadiums are all under refurbishment for the 2008 Olympics, it is hard to find venues for large-scale concerts in Beijing now. This is the reason Shanghai has become the only stop in China for the Rolling Stones, Clapton and Waters.

According to the Beijing-based Star Daily, many rock musicians from Beijing, including Cui Jian and Second-hand Roses' lead singer Liang Long, have booked their tickets and will attend Waters' concert in Shanghai.

Waters was a primary creative force in Pink Floyd from 1965 to 1983, playing bass and singing. He wrote all the lyrics and some of the music of The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), a commercial breakthrough that became one of the most successful albums in rock history. He also wrote most songs in The Wall (1979).

Following the release of The Final Cut in 1983, Pink Floyd broke up and its members launched solo careers. In July 2005, Waters reunited with David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Rick Wright for a one-off Pink Floyd performance at the Live 8 benefit concert in London's Hyde Park.

In October 2005, Waters released the CD of Ca Ira, an opera set during the French Revolution, on which he spent more than 10 years.

BOSTON -- There's going to be a major "Police" presence at Fenway Park this summer.

That's the rock band The Police.

According to the Boston Globe, the reunited rock band is planning concerts this summer at Fenway Park.

The Police are slated to rock Fenway on July 28 and 29.

Previous concerts at Fenway have included performances by the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Jimmy Buffett, and the Dave Matthews Band.

Eddie Van Halen Says Reunion With David Lee Roth For Tour Is 'Pure Magic'

They must be breaking out the ice skates in h*ll.

Van Halen's long-rumored reunion tour with original singer David Lee Roth came one step closer as ink dried on the final contracts Friday (February 2). The tour will feature Roth alongside founding members Eddie and Alex Van Halen, with Eddie's son, Wolfgang Van Halen (who recently replaced Michael Anthony), on bass.

Although Roth teamed up with Van Halen in 1996 to record two songs for a greatest-hits collection, the tour will mark his first time performing live with the band since 1984, the year of their landmark album 1984, which featured "Jump," "Panama" and "Hot for Teacher."

"Playing these timeless hits only works with Dave," Eddie told MTV News in an exclusive statement. "After one rehearsal, it was pure magic."

Dates for the North American outing have yet to be confirmed, but the tour will kick off this summer and hit 40 cities.

"I am very excited to get back to the core of what made Van Halen," Eddie added.

On March 12, Van Halen will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (see "R.E.M., Van Halen, Grandmaster Flash Make Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame") in a ceremony that could feature Van Halen performing with both Roth and his replacement, Sammy Hagar (see "Sammy Hagar's Plans: Beach, Cruise, Sharing Stage With David Lee Roth?").

The original Van Halen lineup formed in the '70s, scoring early hits with "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love," "Runnin' With the Devil" and a cover of the Kinks' "You Really Got Me."

Roth either quit or was fired from Van Halen (depending on whom you ask) in 1985 over feuds with Eddie. He launched a solo career that has ranged from legitimate rock hits hits (1988's "Just Like Paradise") to stints in shock radio and bluegrass, both in 2006 (see "David Lee Roth Reportedly Being Replaced By Opie & Anthony").

In 2001, the singer confirmed rumblings that the original lineup had recorded some new material, but it never surfaced. Rumors started back up last summer, when Roth said there were talks between the two camps.

Jan. 31 (Bloomberg) -- The New York Yankees will host the Major League Baseball All-Star Game in 2008, the final season their 84-year-old stadium will be used.

Yankee Stadium, which opened in 1923 and was the stage for the team's record 26 World Series championships, is giving way to a new $955 million building after the 2008 season.

``It is the most famous cathedral in baseball and I think the most famous stadium in the world,'' Commissioner Bud Selig said at a press conference held at New York's City Hall. ``This is the way we can honor a place that has meant so much to this sport for so long.''

The game is scheduled for July 15, 2008. Yankee Stadium previously hosted All-Star Games in 1939, 1960 and 1977. After each of those seasons, the Yankees reached the World Series.

In addition to hosting the championship teams, the stadium was the home field for such players as Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio, who are among the 13 players in baseball's Hall of Fame who were inducted as Yankees.

Since 2003, the All-Star Game has been used to determine which league gets the advantage of playing at home for four of the seven games in the World Series. The American League has won all four All-Star meetings against the National League in that span and is 9-0-1 over the past 10 years.

``Nobody stages big events like the Big Apple,'' New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said at today's news conference. ``We've got the experience, the resources and the spirit. We'll put on the best All-Star Game in baseball history.''

Ticket Prices

Tickets for last year's All-Star Game in Pittsburgh had a face value of $125 and some re-sold for between $450 and $2,000, ticket brokers said. The cost of seats at the game in the Bronx will probably be significantly higher.

``It's going to be a very tough ticket to get,'' Tom Patania, a board member for the National Association of Ticket Brokers, said in a telephone interview. ``The Yankees without having an All-Star Game have the highest attendance figures. To throw in an All-Star Game on top of that just adds to it.''

The Yankees drew more than 4 million fans in each of the past two seasons and averaged a major league-leading 51,858 for their 81 home games last season.

Bloomberg said city officials are expecting the All-Star Game to attract more than 175,000 visitors and have an estimated economic impact of $148 million. The highest previous economic impact for an All-Star host city was $65 million for Houston in 2004 and Boston in 1999, according to the league.

``This is something that all New Yorkers, not just baseball fans, should cheer about,'' said Bloomberg, the founder and majority owner of Bloomberg News and its parent company, Bloomberg LP. ``This will showcase our city to a huge, diverse television audience and that's equal to millions of dollars of free advertising for our city and will help attract even more visitors and more businesses in years to come.''

All-Star Celebration

Selig said the league's All-Star celebration has changed significantly since 1977, when New York last hosted the game. It now lasts five days and features a home run derby, a fan festival and a futures game for top minor-league players.

Nine of the past 10 All-Star Games were held in new stadiums, including last year's meeting between the American League and National League at Pittsburgh's PNC Park.

Boston's Fenway Park was the only stadium more than 10 years old to host the All-Star Game since 1997.

San Francisco's AT&T Park, which opened in 2000, is the site of this year's game. St. Louis's new stadium will host the 2009 game and Selig said he's already considering the Mets' planned facility as a future All-Star site. Like the Yankees, the Mets are scheduled to open their new venue in 2009.

``This was unusual because one of the things I've tried to do is use the new stadiums, but the more we talked about it, celebrating (the Yankees') unprecedented history the overriding concern,'' Selig said. ``I can assure you, the Mets are on my radar screen when they get a new stadium.''
