Paperless Ticketing Leaves John Mayer Fans in the cold

Paperless Ticketing Leaves John Mayer Fans in the cold outside Madison Square Garden

fans who cannot  travel to the show can not  give the tickets to thier friends in NYC who would love to go to the show, or be able sell sell something they have bought, that they no longer need.

That should be the headline in todays New York Post

Here are the facts from a first hand account

Ticketmaster sold paperless tickets to John Mayer and also advertised that fans could sell them for face value only to other fans if you can not go, removing some of the risk of buyingt ickets to a show months away where a persons plans may change. The official Ticketmaster Paperless Ticking Exchange even 24 hours before tonight's ( Friday night show) Ticketmaster was advertising the paperless tickets and including a link to  sell them for face value, if you could not attend. Again this reenforces the indea that if you can not go you can sell them to another fan

In order to enter the event, you will need the credit card used to purchase the tickets along with a corresponding photo ID. Paperless tickets are non-transferable, however fans unable to attend the event may have an opportunity to post their tickets for sale on TicketExchange for up to 20 percent above face value price, where TicketExchange is made available.

Here are the little dirty secrets Ticketmaster does not tell you

Ticketmaster remove the paperless ticketing exchange when the promoter is stuck with tickets,When the promoter needs to sell tickets that were held back in the final hours before the showtime, this way the promoter is not competing with fans trying to resell tickets. The promoter already has that fans money

The Box office and promoter have your money and they do not care if you go to the concert.

Ticketmaster will place you in a loop of customer service people who will sell they are sorry but you are screwed

Ticketmaster told people that they should spend more money and buy ticket insurance that Ticketmaster sells and then place a claim if you can not go.

Thursday Ticketmaster told fans to call Mondail Ticket Insurance company and buy insurance but make sure you do it 24 hours before the show and do not tell them that your flight might cancel, a sneaky way to get a company other than the performer to pay for the tickets that wont be used

Why does this matter, because fans and friends are stuck for tickets because one person in the party can not get to MSG for th show and the rest of the ticket buyers in the group of 4 people then have to find tickets and pay for more tickets to see John Mayer/

So John Mayer, the promoter, and Ticketmaster get to double dip on fans when something comes up and plans change, if the tickets were emailed or at least if the advertised Ticketmaster Paperless ticketing exchange worked. John Mayers paperless ticketing is just a way to make sure once tickets are sold that fans can not trade or sell them.
